Scene Setting

The Electricity Supply sector is on a path to substantial and transformational growth. Government policy on energy decarbonisation is driving change and innovation, with an ongoing shift towards renewable energy sources across the board.

The 2022 Re-energise report identified four key strategic goals that have guided the sector in recent years. The Electricity Engineers’ Association (EEA) and Energy Resources Aotearoa, together with sector partners, are refreshing this report alongside a project to strengthen workforce data, ensuring the sector can better inform workforce planning, decision-making, and investment across New Zealand’s energy sector.

Through the Re-Energise Report, the sector identified four strategic priorities for workforce development:
